![]() ![]() I don’t want to get it wrong, but it’s my review so there “is no wrong.” Let’s go. (Although I wrote that bit two days ago.) There were definitely laugh out loud moments, and a lot to enjoy. Honestly I should probably sit and think about this story more, but then I’ll get too in my head and afraid I’ll mess up what I ought to or need to say … (which would actually be very fitting with these characters) – so I’ll just go with what’s off the top of my head now and let it go. (I was about 30% in? when I wrote that.) And then just before 50% there was a literal jaw dropping moment and I had to put the book down. So this is how I (it) started with The Duke Who Didn’t: this book is ridiculous in the best possible way. ![]() There’s a lot I want to say about this book, and I probably won’t cover it all, but I want to first say I liked it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Even using these questions for practice sessions, 20-30 questions was more than sufficient for practices and a fair and lively competition. I felt it was more important for all of my questions to be in the "In Which Book.?", format which would be used in the competition. I also did not find it necessary to have 40 questions for each book. I notice many sights have the questions set up on cards, but after organizing and moderating five battles, I found it was just as easy to keep the questions on separate laminated sheets with the title and author at the top for quick reference, then put all sheets in a notebook to thumb through and check off with an erasable marker as you use them. It is a pretty easy set-up.just choose the titles you want to use and then get the questions for those books. If you haven't had a "Battle of the Book type competition in your classroom or school, this is a great way to encourage reluctant readers and improve comprehension and retention. ![]() ![]() ![]() And when Zafira embarks on a quest to restore magic to her suffering world, Nasir is sent by the sultan on a similar mission: retrieve magic and kill the hunter. Cases with Spider-man and Peter Parker, being on different planets working cases for the Living Tribunal and stuff with Hercules. There were some interesting ideas Slott used as far as the types of cases Jen was working and the type of clients that came in. ![]() I immediately felt like this is where the show will be getting some ideas from as they had Jen doing the same thing in that trailer. At her new firm, she is put in charge of the super powered clients division. Here, this whole book revolves around her being a lawyer. In the Savage She-Hulk omnibus, they didn’t get into too much courtroom drama and in the Sensational She-Hulk, they didn’t do it at all. ![]() This prompts her to get back to being a lawyer. So much so that the Avengers have an intervention. ![]() Starts off with Jen being portrayed as the super party girl. I was feeling like this was a 3.5 star book with potential to get higher depending on how it finishes. So the first half or maybe even the first 60% of this book was pretty cool. ![]() ![]() ![]() In an article in the Manchester Evening News she said that the diagnosis was “such a huge relief. Women finally step into the story around chapter 6 and 7, which I was extremely happy to see. I personally think the 'Keepers of Men' are women, and it will be women who ultimately save the world, but in this novel the 'Keepers of Men' are the system/the government, the wealthy old-bag bankers and their sons. The author speaks of the year 2025, where the government has introduced mandatory rehabilitation centers for people who demonstrate “terrorist” ideologies. ![]() This book is excellent, and in my opinion, a fairly accurate prediction of where America is headed if we know who wins the election. ![]() ![]() *Tickets are $5 (plus a small processing fee).
